Brian Beswick
Brian joined the league around the early 1970s, playing for Mossley Brow who later became Mossley A. The team also played at Dukinfield Town Hall and currently at Yorkshire Ward in Mossley. He was their captain for over 20 years and could play whist, snooker and billiards, but preferred to play billiards although his only individual trophy was Runner Up at snooker.
During his time in the league Brian held the offices of Chairman and President of the league and even when he was not on the committee he would regularly attend management meetings.
While he was Mossley A captain, they won many trophies such as league titles at both snooker and billiards, and also whist. They also won the Berry and Taylor cup competitions. Once known as Mossley A they won 3 consecutive snooker league titles in the 1970s.
Although Brian never won any individual trophies with his cue, he did get a long service award from the league and when he died on 19th March 2013 he had over 40 years membership of the league.
Brian was a well respected member of the league, who has been greatly missed.
