Snookered by lockdown
STALYBRIDGE Snooker League has been snookered by the recent re-introduction of lockdown restrictions.
A provisional restart date for August 6 had to be shelved with the committee cancelling the rest of the 2019-20 season, which ended prematurely in March.
The positions will stand as they were at lockdown and the league is hoping next season can start as normal in October.
There will be an annual meeting/mini presentation night in mid-September with the league starting two weeks later.
At the meeting, officers for next season will be elected and they will stay for 12 months.
The presentation night will include the snooker and whist league trophies with a few individual ones.
Hyde CC will be crowned snooker champions for the second year running, with St Peter’s runners up.
In the whist, Mossley B are winners with Denton CC runners up on countback.
The individual trophies will be for the darts league, man of the match, players’ league, snooker highest break and billiards highest breaks. There will also be the annual Sportsmanship Trophy award.
It is hoped to get going again next season, while being Covid compliant, when the first matches will be the traditional George Fletcher and Gordon Clay Trophy finals.
This year the snooker will be between Hyde CC and St Peter’s while the whist involves Mossley B and Denton CC.
The league is always looking for new players and teams and if anyone interested should email at
