Snooker league looks for cue to restart
THE Stalybridge Snooker League is looking to resume towards the end of September as life returns to some form of normality.
It will be a welcome return after 18 months of inactivity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2019-20 season was cut short and the 2020-21 campaign never started.
League secretary Ian Hopton said: “It was recently decided that with everything slowly opening up and everyone having their vaccinations, we should explore the possibility of restarting the league for the 2021-22 season.
“We have already had the necessary annual meeting to start the season and the handicaps for the existing players are also ready.
“As league secretary, I have already asked the various team captains to approach their home venues and their current players.
“Each venue will nave different criteria for playing cards and snooker, so it is important we
know their specific requirements as things open up again in the next few weeks.
“The teams will also know if they have enough players to start the league. I am hoping our league season will be able to start at the end of September.”
