The latest news- Stalybridge Snooker League
THE Stalybridge Snooker League campaign may have finished, but that has not signalled the end of the action.
The first three rounds of the individual billiards have taken place, reducing the number of players from 20 to four.
The quarter finalists were Nathan Burrows, Chris Edwards and Gareth Robinson from Mossley ‘B’, Mark Neale, Josh Wright and Dan Tipping from Hyde Snooker, Lewis Kerfoot from Staly Vegas and Vas Patel from Mossley ‘A’.
In the last eight, that were played over only one frame, Tipping beat Burrows, Wright overcame Kershaw, Patel defeated Gareth Robinson while Edwards beat Neale.
The quarter finals of the individual snooker were the best of three frames.
Neale beat Kerfoot 2-0, Patel overcame Robinson by the same score, Ian Carter of Mossley ‘B’ defeated St Peter’s Phil Vidler 2-0 while Alex Tate, of Staly Vegas, beat Ian Whittaker from St Peter’s 2-1 after losing the first frame.
lt was also the second leg of the preliminary round of the Berry and Taylor Cups with St Peters leading 4-3 in the snooker and 149-111 in the whist. This meant that Hyde Snooker would have to do something special to continue in both competitions.
In the Berry Cup, St Peter’s took two of the first three frames, but Hyde scored the two highest breaks so the overall scores were tied with one billiards and a doubles at snooker still to play. Hyde Snooker won both of these so took the snooker preliminaries 8-6.
In the Taylor Cup they could not repeat this and lost 135-125 on the night and 284-236 overall.
Next week it the annual whist drive.
