Mossley crowned champions in the Stalybridge Snooker League
MOSSLEY ‘A’ have won the Stalybridge Snooker League while Mossley ‘B’ made it a double by claiming the whist title.
During the season Mossley ‘A’ won 26 games of snooker, 24 of billiards and 16 of snooker doubles.
Before the final matches were played, Staly Labour changed their name to Staly Vegas and now play from that club.
The final matches saw Hyde SC play St Peter’s and Mossley ‘B’ play Staly Vegas in the snooker league while Hyde and St Peter’s met in the cards league. There were 3-2 wins for Hyde SC and Mossley ‘B’ and St Peter’s won the cards.

Now the league has finished, it is the individual and team knockout competitions until the end of the season.
The first individual competition was to be the pool knockout at Mountain Street Club, Mossley, but due to adverse weather conditions was deferred by one week.
There was a good turnout and after an enjoyable night Darran Beswick, from Mossley ‘B’, beat team-mate Nathan Burrows in the final.
The team knockouts are snooker’s Berry Cup and the whist Taylor Cup which originally commenced in 1954 and 1962 respectively.
These have two preliminary matches in each competition with winners progressing to the semi-finals.
The first matches were on March 15 when Hyde Snooker played St Peter’s in both competitions.
Hyde beat St Peter’s 3-2 in games but St Peters recorded the highest breaks at snooker and billiards so won the first match 4-3 and St Peter’s also won the cards 149-111.The second preliminary matches are on April 12.
The next individual competition to start was the snooker competition on the March 22 and initially there were 23 entrants who were reduced to 16 by seven preliminary matches and the last 16 matches were also played on the same night.
The players who have reached the quarter finals are Ian Whittaker and Phil Vidler from St Peters, Vas Patel from Mossley ‘A’, Alex Tate and Lewis Kerfoot, from Staly Vegas, Ian Carter and Gareth Robinson from Mossley ‘B’ and finally Mark Neale, from Hyde Snooker. The quarter finals will be on April 12.
The next competition will be the individual billiards on March 29.
