Stalybridge Snooker League Results (Week 17 & 18)
WEEK 17:
As we enter week 17 of the league season Hyde SC played Staly Labour, Mossley B played St Georges and St Peters played Mossley A.
We also had a rearranged match between St Georges and Mossley B played on the Friday evening.
In the Thursday matches there were 4-1 wins for both Mossley clubs while Hyde SC beat Staly Labour 3-2. In the card league there were wins for Mossley A and St Georges. On the following evening St Georges beat Mossley B 3-2 but did not have time to play the cards.
All these results now mean that with 3 matches to go, Mossley A were now seven points clear of Hyde SC in the snooker league but Hyde have a game in hand. In the cards league we have both Mossley clubs tied at the top with 16 points but here Mossley B have a game in hand. St Georges are 1 point behind with 2 games in hand.
WEEK 18:
As we near the end of the league we have three normal matches so we should finish in 22nd spot as planned. In the matches St Peters play Mossley B, Staly Labour play St Georges, and Mossley A play Hyde SC. There is still one match to be arranged and that is Hyde SC against St Georges.
In the snooker league we had 3-2 wins for St Peters and Mossley A and Staly Labour beat St Georges 5-0 because they only had two players .They lost both matches and forfeited the other three. There were card wins for both Mossley clubs.
These now mean that Mossley A are eight points clear of Hyde Snooker who have a game in hand and in the card league both Mossley Clubs are now tied on 18 points with Mossley B ‘s game in hand still to be played.
This would normally be the end of this fortnightly review but after their match with Staly Labour, St Georges decided to withdraw from the league and end their thirty year membership.
They had struggled to field a full team some weeks. Instead of the rearranged match between Hyde SC and St Georges, an EGM took place on 8th February, and their resignation was discussed with the emphasis on how the league should go forward now with only five teams.
Normal play will resume next week and there is only two weeks left. Putting the league’s decision in place Mossley A still lead Hyde Snooker by eight points in the Snooker League but in the Card League the impact of the changes means Mossley B now have 22 points with one game to play and Mossley A have finished on 20 points. This means Mossley B will be league champions at the end of the season.
