By George: Mossley A team win derby in snooker challenge trophy finals
THE Stalybridge Snooker League began with the traditional challenge trophy finals where league champions take on cup winners.
The snooker trophy, the George Fletcher Trophy was won by cup winners Mossley A who defeated league champions Mossley B.
The whist trophy, the Gordon Clay Trophy saw league champions Mossley B beat cup winners St Peters.
One week later it all started for real with the start of the league season and new boys Hyde Snooker Club got off to a good start at St Georges beating them 3-2 at snooker, but losing the whist match.
Mossley A travelled the short distance to Mossley B and also beat them 3-2 at snooker but lost the whist match.
In week two St Peter’s started their league campaign with a visit to Mossley A and were beaten 4-1 at snooker and also lost the whist match.
Mossley B travelled to St Georges and beat them 3-2 and also picked up the whist match. Hyde Snooker Club had a free night.
By the third week all the teams were starting to settle down and this week St George’s had a free week while St Peter’s travelled to Mossley B and recorded their first league win beating Mossley B 3-2 and drawing the whist match.
Mossley A went to Hyde Snooker and won 3-2 and also triumphed in the whist game.
Moving onto week four, St George’s beat St Peter’s 4-1 in the first Stalybridge derby, but lost the whist and in the other match Hyde Snooker beat Mossley B 3-2, but lost the whist match.
